My first response to this photo is to the title, which makes me instantly consider: "Mabe not!" And that begins the dynamism of this piece, which happens almost instantly: There are "many moons." Not one of them is THE moon. Perhaps some are moons and some are not. Perhaps this is all figurative, and it is playing with the "tides" and "phases" of one's imagination. That's where this piece "clicks" for me -- phases. The coloration, the shadows, and the shapes all "phase" in and out, which creates that tidal quality associated with the moon. Some of the discs actually DO look like planetary moons (most notably Phobos and Diemos, the moons of Mars, which are rather strange -- their names are especially appropriate to the associations created by this piece because the photo creates a state of unease and tranquility at the same time). I am left thinking of bubbles in ice, hammered discs of metal, ancient coins, weathered stone, and corroded metal. Thank you for a great pic.
